The Mop Shop News of 2014

  • Thanks to family and friends for their generous donations during the holiday season. (December 2014)

  • As December drew to a close, records showed that 85 individuals and 135 family members from 9 communities within Jo Daviess County were served by The Mop Shop during the first five months of operation.  (December 2014)

  • Thanks to the Galena Territory Association office staff for their holiday donation to The Mop Shop.  (December 2014)

  • Our sincere thanks to Galena's Taste of Home Cooking School for the generous donation made to The Mop Shop.  Fran Onak presented a check to Missy on Wednesday, December 10.  (December 2014)

  • By early December The Mop Shop had provided support to over 200 family members from 9 communities within Jo Daviess County.  (December 2014)

  • Provided a tour of The Mop Shop to the Jo Daviess County 4-H Federation in preparation for their winter rag donation drive.  We appreciate the support of these young leaders.  (December 2014)

  • Thanks to Hoskins Building Center in Elizabeth for installing the new signage adjacent to The Mop Shop door inside the Municipal Building.  (November 2014)

  • Kelly Lindblom of Linden Soaps, www.lindensoaps.com, generously donated 21 sets of gift soaps to be distributed to clients during the holiday season.   (November 2014)

  • Generous donations were made by the Lord of Love Lutheran Church and the Galena Bible Church, AWANA Kid's Club.  Thanks to donations such as these, the shelves at The Mop Shop continue to be fully stocked. (November 2014)

  • First Quarter Report, August - October 2014:  clients 59, family members 83, total 142 serviced from 9 communities within Jo Daviess County. 

  • October 2014 Data:  12 new clients representing 35 family members from 9 communities within Jo Daviess County registered.  In total, 34 new and returning clients were serviced in October.  

  • September 2014 Data:  16 new clients representing 41 family members from 8 communities within Jo Daviess County registered.  In total, 31 new and returning clients were serviced in September. 

  • The Mop Shop was pleased to participate in Galena's Taste of Home Cooking School pre-event expo on September 25.  Eighty-five to 100 program participants stopped to learn about the services provided by The Mop Shop within Jo Daviess County.  It proved to be great exposure for TMS. (September 2014)

  • The congregation of the Lord of Love Lutheran Church made generous donations in support of Mop Shop Sunday.  (September 2014)

  • August 2014 Data:  31 clients representing 66 family members from 8 communities within Jo Daviess County registered.

  • The Mop Shop and other grantees were included in a Huffington Post blog submitted by the founder of The Pollination Project.  (August 2014)

  • Met with the congregation of the Lord of Love Lutheran Church.  We were advised that the third Sunday of every month has been designated as Mop Shop Day with cleaning supplies collected for donation to The Mop Shop.  (August 2014)

  • The Mop Shop has been added to The Pollination Project website.  We invite you to visit www.thepollinationproject.org/grants.  (August 2014)

  • We're off to a great start!  We welcomed 20 clients with a total of 34 family members during Opening Day!  We're looking forward to welcoming more next Monday!  (August 2014)

  • Seventeen friends of The Mop Shop attended the ribbon cutting at 11:00 am on Friday, August 1, 2014. (August 2014)

  • Article entitled Mop Shop's mission is to fill a need appeared in the Galena Gazette on July 23, 2014. (July 2014)

  • Met with Hillary Dickerson, editor of The Galena Gazette, regarding the opening of The Mop Shop. (July 2014)

  • Donations happily accepted!  Room 131 is ready and shelves are being stocked.  (July 2014)

  • Marketing postcards delivered to all food pantries in Jo Daviess County.  (July 2014)

  • Cleaned, prepped and painted Room 131, The Mop Shop.  (July 2014)

  • Press release entitled The Mop Shop to Open in Elizabeth appeared in the July issue of the Territory Times, Vol. 35, No. 7 (June 2014)

  • President Michael Dittmar added a link to The Mop Shop from the Village of Elizabeth Community Services web page.  (June 2014)

  • Awarded a $500 grant from the Pollination Project, www.thepollinationproject.org.  (June 2014)

  • Launched The Mop Shop website, www.themopshop.org.  Special thanks to Lydia Nowak for sharing her time and talent! (June 2014)

  • Store Manager Greg Finn at Gasser True Value in Galena provided a $50 gift certificate. (June 2014)

  • Press release announcing the opening of The Mop Shop submitted to the Territory Times in May for inclusion in the July 2014 issue.  (May 2014)

  • Grant request submitted to the Pollination Project.  (April 2014)

  • The Mop Shop logo was created by Tasha Lippold. (April 2014)

  • Jo Daviess County Health Department advised of plans to open The Mop Shop. (March 2014)

  • Visits to Jo Daviess County food pantries to advise of establishment of The Mop Shop. (March - ongoing)

  •  President Mike Dittmar announced Committee approval for use of space by The Mop Shop in the Elizabeth Municipal Building on or before August 1, 2014.  (March 2014)

  • Tammy Lee of Tammy's Piggly Wiggly in Galena pledges $500 in supplies to The Mop Shop.  (March 2014)

  • Employees of Premier Bank in Dubuque donate $130 to The Mop Shop following their "Jeans for a Cause" Day.  (March 2014)

  • University of Illinois Extension staff and Menominee Achiever's 4-H Club make product donations to The Mop Shop. (February 2014)  

  • Article announcing the establishment of The Mop Shop appeared in The Flash.  (February 2014)

  • Consulted with the River Bend Food Bank regarding plans to open The Mop Shop in Jo Daviess County. (January 2014)
