The Mop Shop News of 2015

  • Paper towels, sponges, Swiffers and more!  What a wonderfully generous surprise donation from the Independent Order of Odd Fellows in Galena.  We are overwhelmed by your kindness.  (December 2015)

  • In November, we exceeded previous record highs with 64 client visits.  In addition to the "trick or treat" event, a TMS donation day at Tammy's Piggly Wiggly and a donation table at WalMart provided much needed cleaning supplies.  Our sincere thanks to all donors and to those who visit the shop.  (November 2015)

  • Lots of tricks!  What a great success!  Thanks so much to the Sheperd of the Hills Lutheran Church for the outstanding "trick or treat" event to benefit The Mop Shop.  Thanks to the area businesses that provided donation sites, the community members who so generously donated product and the First Community Bank of Galena and the Mission Support group of the Sheperd of the Hills Lutheran Church for their generous financial donations.  Paper towels, laundry detergent, dish soap, buckets, sponges and toilet bowl cleaner were collected in abundance and will be put to good use.   Our heartfelt thanks to organizer Becky Wright.  (November 2015)

  • Trick or Treat for TMS!  A truly spook-tacular event is in the works thanks to the creativity and generosity of the Sheperd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Schapville.  During the month of October, "trash cans" have been set up at the church, Pat's Grocery in Scales Mound and Apple River Bank branches in Warren and Elizabeth to collect cleaning supplies and monetary donations for TMS.  As you visit these local businesses we invite you to drop off an extra roll of paper towels, dish soap, laundry detergent or other household cleaning product.  The Mop Shop has now registered nearly 450 clients and family members from ten communities throughout Jo Daviess County.  We continue to attract new clients each week.  The Mop Shop extends its most sincere appreciation to the congregation and to those who support the cause of helping others.  Happy Halloween!  (October 2015)

  • Just a reminder that The Mop Shop will be closed on Monday, September 7 in recognition of Labor Day.  We'll see you on Monday, September 14.  (August 2015)

  • Monday, August 3 marks the first anniversary of The Mop Shop.  Our heartfelt thanks to those who have supported us in so many ways.  Thanks too to those in need who have walked through our door.  Special thanks to Barb and Steve for their on-going support...a generous and dedicated group of thoughtful volunteers.  Here's to another great year!  Happy Birthday TMS! (August 2015)

  • On July 31, The Mop Shop had a complete floor to ceiling cleaning.  We will celebrate our first anniversary on Monday, August 3. (July 2015)

  • In July, we exceeded previous record highs with 48 client visits.  (July 2015)

  • The total client visits for June were the second highest ever at 43.  (June 2015)

  • May was another busy month at The Mop Shop where 25 new clients and family members registered.  With those numbers, we've exceeded our projection for the year.   As a result, our annual goal has been increased.  The Mop Shop remains committed to serving those in need.  (May 2015)

  • Once again The Mop Shop was thrilled to participate in the Taste of Home Cooking School held in Galena in early May.  Our sincere thanks to those who stopped by our table, donated to our cause and indicated an interest in starting a mop shop in their communities.  (May 2015)

  • Tammy Lee from The Piggly Wiggly in Galena surprised us with another huge donation.  Our communities are indeed fortunate to have such a kind and generous business owner...a true leader in every sense.   (May 2015)

  • The Mop Shop was happy to "adopt a pot" to brighten Elizabeth's Main Street this summer.  Look for our pot just outside the Jo Daviess County Soil and Water Conservation District office.  (May 2015)

  • Just a reminder that The Mop Shop will be closed on Monday, May 25 in honor of Memorial Day.  We'll see you on Monday, June 1.  Our heartfelt thanks to those who have so bravely served.  (May 2015)

  • April was another busy month at The Mop Shop.  We registered 18 new clients and 34 new family members. We are so pleased to offer assistance to those in need and thank the friends, schools, churches and agencies who are making these referrals.  (April 2015)

  • Our sincere appreciation to the Shepherd of the Hills Church in Scales Mound for their extraordinarily generous donation to The Mop Shop.  (April 2015)

  • Thanks to Claire Bersbach, Guilford Township Clerk, for submitting an article on The Mop Shop entitled Help for no cost to the township, for inclusion in the Township Perspective magazine.   It is a goal of this Mop Shop to serve as a template for others across the state and nation.  The monthly publication was distributed state-wide in April.  (April 2015)

  • We are happy to report that we registered our 100th client this month! (March 2015)

  • Piles and piles of rags and boxes of cleaning supplies were collected, sorted and packed by the Jo Daviess County 4-H Federation and donated to The Mop Shop.  The Rag Drive, a community service project, has been underway for several months.  Sincere thanks to 4-H'ers, leaders, parents and grandparents who participated.  (March 2015)

  • The Mop Shop registered nearly 250 clients and family members during its first six months of operation.  This success would not have been possible without generous donations from friends, family, neighbors and local churches, businesses, banks, schools and other community organizations.  New clients are always welcome.  (January 2015)

  • We are delighted to have received a very generous donation from the Libman Company that included cases of tornado mops and broom-dustpan sets.  These are among our most popular items.  (January 2015)
