The Mop Shop News of 2016

  • We were thrilled to participate in what has become a tradition in the Galena Territory....the Holiday House Walk.  Heartfelt thanks to Jan Bye for opening her home to holiday visitors.  Over $700 was raised to benefit The Mop Shop.  That's a lotta mops and brooms!  (December 2016)

  • We welcomed Pat Willy as our fifth volunteer in November.  We're fortunate to have another warm, thoughtful team member join us.  Welcome Pat!  (November 2016)

  • The second annual Trick or Treat for The Mop Shop was fabulous!  Sincere thanks to Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church for sponsoring this creative event...and to the local businesses that provided drop off sites - The Galena Gazette, Pat's Country House Grocery and Apple River Bank in Elizabeth and Warren...and to those community members who donated mops, cleansers, paper towels, sponges, laundry detergent, bowl cleaner, brushes and more.  Terrific! (October 2016)

  • To that kind gentleman stranger in line behind us at the Dollar Tree in La Crosse, WI...your generosity in "picking up The Mop Shop tab" left us speechless!  WOW!  Blessings to you and yours! (October 2016)

  • ON THE AIR!  The Mop Shop enjoyed some radio time with Shary Gibson on WFRL AM 1570 in Freeport in early August.  Many thanks to Shary for providing the forum to share the story regarding the creation of The Mop Shop, its growth, our wonderful supporters and future goals.  We hope a few listeners may be intrigued and interested in creating Mop Shops in their own communities.  Cool! (August 2016)

  • Happy birthday to The Mop Shop!  August 4 marks the second anniversary of our opening.  Over 615 clients and family members have now registered with The Mop Shop.  Initially serving 30 or so clients each month, we now routinely see 60-65, occasionally serving over 70.  While we are saddened to see the need grow we are happy to partner with our generous donors in helping others.  (August 2016)

  • The congregation at the Lord of Love Lutheran Church in Galena has supported The Mop Shop since we opened our doors nearly two years ago.  Designating the third Sunday of every month as "Mop Shop Sunday" they have made an immese difference in the lives of the more than 600 clients and family members registered at The Mop Shop.  Words are inadequate to describe our appreciation. (July 2016)

  • Jeff Jensik and Jack Fisher from the Galena Knights of Columbus presented The Mop Shop with a very generous check in early July.  We continue to be overwhelmed by the kindness and support of our community.  What an incredible place to call "home."  (July 2016)

  • A sincere thank you to Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Scales Mound for their on-going support.  Their recent financial donation means the world to us...we collectively continue to make a difference. (July 2016)

  • The Mop Shop "earns" $450 during Share Night at Culver's.  Thanks to Culver's and the great staff in Galena, our enthusiastic volunteers and the supportive community.  A fun time was had by all! (May 2016)

  • Calling all t-shirts!  There's a home for you in the collection bin at the Galena Middle School!  T-shirt contributions are welcome during the entire month of April.  Look for The Mop Shop Stop bins.  Our thanks to the Student Council and Lydia Nowak for their efforts on behalf of The Mop Shop.   (April 2016)

  • Our sincere thanks to the Galena Lions Club for their most generous donation.  Our needs continue as we have now registered over 530 clients and family members.  The kindness of local businesses,  civic organizations, schools and churches has been overwhelming.  We're so proud to be part of a county that cares for others.  (April 2016)

  • The Mop Shop received a surprising and thrilling honor March 17 when it was presented with the 2016 TCEDA Non-Profit Collaboration Award.  Sincere thanks to all responsible for our collective success.  Together we ARE making a difference. (March 2016)

  • The Mop Shop received two incredibly generous donations in January.  Sincere thanks to John Slimp, owner of the delightful and delicious Otto's Place Cafe and Lounge in Galena and the wonderful Bed and Breakfast Innkeepers of Galena.  Your generosity is simply overwhelming!  (February 2016)

  • Thanks bunches to LuAnn Hott, Newell, IA and Chanda Hott, Bloomington, IL for their donation of t-shirts.  That's a lotta rags!  (January 2016)

  • TMS ended the year having registered 483 clients and family members from throughout Jo Daviess County.  Thank you to our many donors and supporters.  Kudos to Barb and Steve who staff the shop and neighbors Pat, John and Linda who so graciously provide storage space.  A special nod to Michael Dittmar, President of the Village of Elizabeth, for his continuing interest (and space).  It takes a village...and we have a very special one.  (January 2016)
